Mr. A came running into the house. “MOMMY! GRANDPA GAVE ME A HAMMER!!!!!” Really, it was that loud.
My first thought was, oh crap. This is the most destructive child ever created, what the hell is his grandpa thinking?? Obviously, he is not thinking at all.
But then I took 5 seconds to actually see the pure joy on my four year olds face. And I smiled.
We set a couple ground rules.
1. No playing with the tools unsupervised (that was broken on day 2)
2. No hitting your brothers with the hammer (so far…so good)
3. Clean up all your mess after you are done “working.” (uummm…not happening)
In the last couple days his daddy even added a pair of pliers and a couple screw drivers. His grandpa let him have an old tool box out of the shed. I have one happy four year old. That makes me happy.
