Magic Happiness Pill?

I need to lose weight.  A lot of weight.  I spent the last year trying to gain approval for weight loss surgery.  I was ultimately declined for “lack of medical necessity.  *blah*  So now I’m back to square one trying to find something that will work for me.

When I was trying to get approval for surgery, I started drinking lots of high protein shakes.  That worked.  I lost 20 pounds in a month.  But once I got bored with the shakes, I put it back on.  I try to eat well.  I really do.  But it’s hard when you are dealing with the kids and you don’t have time for yourself.  My mom is doing well on Jenny Craig.  But it’s a very slow process.  Plus, it’s really expensive.

So now I am thinking of trying a diet pill.  Has any one used Alli?  I’ve heard things about their “side effects.”  Or what they like to call “treatment effects.”  LOL  You  know, the “gas with oily discharge” or “loose stools.”  *Blech*

But here is what I’m thinking.  If I’m taking a pill that’s gonna cause me to crap my pants when I eat french fries…maybe I won’t eat the french fries.  Am I wrong?  You don’t have these “treatment effects” if you are eating a low fat diet.

If you have used Alli, please let me know what your experience was like.  Did you lose weight?  Help me decide!

  1. I have used Alli and really liked it. Most of what people say is true but it is all how you manage it. Email me or find me on Google chat and I am happy to go into more detail. :)

If you dont take the 3 a day that the bottle recommends you will not have that may issues, and really the treatment effects come with you eating really fatty foods, so if you modify your diet a bit it shouldnt be a problem. I use them and I love them. I lost 45 pounds last year, but I gained 5 back and have 40 more to go. So we can cheer each other on… Good Luck!

I have never used Alli but I have definitely thought about it. Have you tried the maple syrup lemonade diet that Beyonce used to get skinny for dream girls? I heard it really works but I am sure there are plenty of drawbacks.

A long time ago I went to Weight Watchers and lost almost 100 pounds. Then I made a fatal mistake, I started listening to poeple who said how good I looked. I started eating twinkes and other junk food and as a result I have gained it all back. The Weight Watcher program now is entirely different than the one I was on but I still have the book and have decided that fat is not what I want to be. I know it did not go on overnight and I know it will not come off overnight but I am going to give it a go again. The one thing I did learn when I was on the program the first time is that unless you really want to lose the weight for yourself and stop caring what the rest of the world thinks you just don’t have a chance.
All of this said I wish you all of the luck in the world and I know that you will lose the weight because you are a strong woman.

I have used Alli and it definitely caused my butt to leak oily poo. I had to wear pantiliners. It was really embarrasing because the first time it happened I was at work. Totally gross. I didn’t even eat that poorly at that time. Even after I drastically reduced my fat intake there was still a bit of leakage. However, it did help me lose weight and it wasn’t so bad once I started taking only one or two a day instead of three. I guess you have to see if the good outweighs the bad. Ultimately, I stopped taking them and just worked out really hard instead. Some people can make it work for them but oily butt wasn’t for me. LOL. I got pregnant right after I lost all that weight and boohoo, put it all back on plus more. If I wasn’t currently breastfeeding my 13 month old I might consider giving it another try. I’m just sick of being uncomfortable in this body. 15lbs to go and no end in sight. Sigh. Good luck to us both! Whatever you choose, keep us updated!

Weight loss is a hard battle, I know myself. I have had experience with diet pills. I took metabolife about 9 years ago. Along with that, I dieted and worked out like a maniac and lost 35 lbs in 3 months. I stopped taking the pills, slowly stopped my workouts, had two babies and I have gained 25 of those lbs back. I am going to start getting more active and watching my intake, but this time, I am going to try it without the pills. I have a different out take on taking medicine for things like this bc my husband took some pills to quit smoking and the side affects were really, really bad! It almost put him in a major depression not to mention lots of other things. This really opened my eyes to what we put into our systems.

If you take alli, just pay attention to your body and the signs is gives you. I hear great things about it. I know how hard it is to loose weight and a magic pill sounds like the best thing in the entire world bc trying it beats how we are feeling about ourselves right now. Just remember, I know it is hard, you are the same beautiful person inside no matter what your body looks like!

I have not tried Alli, and don’t plan to. I feel that if you start taking a pill to help you lose weight, when you stop taking the pill it’s going to come back on.

I really like T-tapp. You can find it at http://www.t-tapp.com. It is an exercise program. The basic workout is only 15 minutes! I have had good results with this. I lost almost 8 inches in 60 days, and I’ve seen women lose lots more!

The other program that I think looks really good, but I have not tried is Fit Yummy Mummy.

Good luck and remember it takes time.

  8. I am in your same boat. I was denied for basically not having any health problems. I was like, “I want to prevent them.”

Anyway, I don’t take anything. I never will. There are so many pills pulled later and that harm us down the road. I am doing Wii Fit, and when I do it regularly . . . I lose about 3 pounds a week. Which is awesome! Have you tried Wii Fit?
