I really hope that the school doesn’t penalize the students for their parents being idiots. Because if they do, Mr. A. is in BIG trouble!
A permission slip came home last week because his class will be going to the pumpkin patch. I looked at it and then set it down in a pile. I have piles everywhere. Organized chaos….right? Well Bob took him to school this morning and when he came home he asked “does Anthony have everything he needs for his field trip?”
WHAT?!
Oh shit!
I went frantically digging through piles looking for the permission slip. I hadn’t ever even returned it. I was so upset thinking that my little baby was going to be left in his classroom all alone because his mother sucked. How could he forgive me?
I found the slip in a pile of papers that came from school. In the pile is a family homework project that I forgot about, too. Score: 0 -2. Nice.
Reading the slip I discover that his field trip is NOT today. Thank GOD! It’s actually next Tuesday. BUT, I was supposed to have the slip signed and returned by yesterday. Oops.
Does this happen to anyone else or am I just particularly lame? I am supposed to help him with homework about once a week. I forget. Papers need to go back to school. I forget. I’m supposed to send lunch money to the school. I forget. I sign up for snacks…that’s right…I forget.
Can I blame pregnancy brain?
I do have a calendar. I should use it, but I forget.
I hope I remember to pack him a lunch next Tuesday…

I forget things all the time! Try Google Calendar! LOL

Ya know, I just got an iPhone and I’m trying really hard to use the calendar. Maybe I’ll get it figured out before the twins start K.
I dropped one of my kids off at the library once(I FORGET which one). Went grocery shopping, then was SUPPOSE to pick him(at least I DO know it was a boy), got home and was furious with which ever kid it was that he wasn’t home and hadn’t left a note as to where he was going. I spit and sputtered forever while I put away the groceries. Wasn’t until I got a phone call from the library telling me they were closing and wondering if I was going to pick up my child that I remembered I FORGOT the poor kid at the library!!!
OH NO!! LOL! Thanks, your story totally makes me feel better!
I have the same problem. What I do is when he gets off the bus, I take his folder out and do whatever I need to do right then. I put it right back in his backpack for the net day. Even if it is supposed to go back in a week (like school picture forms) I do it then and send it. If I didn’t do this I would forget everything. The only thing I am trying to get down is when his library book goes back. lol
This is a great idea, but he doesn’t really use/need a backpack yet. He was using it at the beginning and just going back and forth with an empty bag. Lol! His school doesn’t really send too much stuff back and forth, it’s probably why I forget when they do.
I’m just going to have to get better at using my calendar. I bought a big fancy family one at Sam’s Club the other day and it’s just hanging blank on my wall. I have that and now my phone…just need to get into the habit.
My daughter Hannah is in kindergarten too! She is required to take a back pack to school each day. The teacher also has a folder system where she puts a homework packet in the folder on Monday and then is returned to school on Friday. The school has used this system for years and seems to work.
Oh – I totally do the same thing, and in my house it only gets worse as they get older and you have more kids in school.
A couple of years ago when my oldest was in kindergarten I could pretty much hang with it. Last year when I had my oldest in first grade and my middle child in kindergarten it was harder keeping up with both, but I managed to do it because when I got home from work they had all their playing out of their system and we sat down and went over things. Now that the oldest and the middle child (btw – who is bipolar with ADHD) are both in full day school and I’m not working and on a job hunt I find myself forgetting things all the time! And I even mark the calendar and hang the little calendar the school sends home each month when it makes it home
BTW – I love reading your blog. I stumbled across it one day and had to subscribe.
Aw, THANK YOU! I am always amazed that people actually find entertainment in my blog. LOL
When my son was in kindergarten (he’s in 7th grade now) I would forget to turn in permission slips, etc too. Usually the teacher sends a reminder home a few days before the field trip to gently remind the parents who have yet to return the paperwork to TURN IT IN! But honestly, it only gets worse! Now, I’m lucky if he brings anything home! When I look in his backpack, any papers that are meant for the parents are all crumpled up or wet from his leaking water bottle! For years now I’ve entered every school event (i.e. picture day, field trips, etc) into my cell phone calendar so I won’t forget. I used to write notes to myself but that stopped when they all just ended up in one big pile on my kitchen counter! So, once you figure out your new cell, I would highly recommend that. Plus the really cool thing about my son now being in junior high is at his school, whenever they have homework or a test the next day in any of his 6 classes, we receive a pre-recorded message on our answering machine saying something like, “Your 7th grade child has a test/quiz tomorrow in period 2. Please make sure your child is ready for this test/quiz”. or “Your child was assigned homework in period 3 today and it is due tomorrow”. I think this program is GREAT for many reasons, but mainly my son can no longer tell me, “No, mom, I do not have any homework tonight! Geez!”.
This is so funny! This was me last year! I think that Kindergarten is more about training parents than about the kids learning stuff! Like getting your kids to school on time, remembering to make them do their homework, and remembering permission slips! I can’t tell you how many times last year (my oldest was in K) I felt genuinely stressed by HIS SCHOOL crap! It was easy for him, but for me? Geez!
Thanks for the smile!
