Let’s Vote on Rhea’s New Tattoo

I’ve been wanting another tattoo for quite a while.  I started out by wanting to have Anthony’s (and eventually the other boys’) names tattooed somewhere in their own print.  Like Tommy Lee did with his kids’ names.  He had each of his boys’ write their own name on his arm and then went and had the signatures permanently inked in.

Isn’t that cool?

And who knows…maybe I’ll still do this eventually.  But for now, I’ve moved on to another thought.

Between my own boys and my surrogate babies, I’ve delivered 7 babies in 6 years.  A crazy and amazing accomplishment if you ask me.  So I’ve been thinking that maybe I would like to get a tattoo commemorating that.  I know I want something with baby feet.  At first, I was thinking perhaps a “flower” with the feet as pedals.

So I’ve been messing around in photoshop trying to get some ideas.

The more I play with the flower idea, the less I like it.  But I think it is purely due to my own lack of artistic creativity.  Perhaps if a true tattoo artist could render it for me, it could be gorgeous, but the thought of just showing up to a tattoo parlor with no artwork makes me nervous.  This is where I am at on this one:

I tried adding swirls to it, played with making the center a sun instead of a flower, converted it to black and white…etc. etc.  I messed with it for hours yesterday.  Eventually just settling on this very flat and boring image.

When I got exasperated with my foot flower, I started looking through google images.  I found several where people had little baby feet on the top of their foot.  They were just plain, nothing fancy, and mostly just one or two sets of feet…not seven.  But I went back and started playing with that concept and came up with this:

At the moment, I am liking this second one better than the first.  But I hear foot tattoos HURT like a you know what, so I’m nervous about going that direction. I have already decided I won’t get a tattoo on my shoulder and a calf would be a last choice.  I prefer tattoos on women to be on ankles, feet, backs, etc.

Now I need you.  Should I try messing with the first tattoo a little more?  Maybe ask a real artist to help me?  I want to put that one in the center of my back/neck.  I think it could be a cool and special tattoo if I could get it to look nice instead of cheesy.  Or would you go with the second?  That would probably go on the top of my foot, maybe around my ankle.

Is there anyone out there that could help me with the first one?

Tattoos are a big decision.  I only have one, that I got when I was in my early 20′s.  So it’s been a very long time and I’ve played with the idea of more for a very long time without committing.  I need your help to make it a good decision!

Which one and where?

I love love love the second one. Maybe across your lower back or around your ankle kind of like an anklet?? Do I make sense?!

There is something wrong with putting sweet baby feet in a “tramp stamp” Tattoo. LOL

….people will think I got all those babies by being a tramp…hahaha

I LOVE the UNC tarheels and I have always thought about getting a tattoo of the foot on my foot! Maybe you should put the cute feet on your foot or that 2nd design as an anklet going around your ankle!

  3. I like the second one. You could always get it around your ankle. I have one and it didn’t hurt *that* bad :)

    Hmmm…

Okay, I’ll be honest. I am so not a tattoo person. I mean, putting something cute on my ass would be kin to tattooing a heart on cattle. But I love the foot/flower idea. I think maybe if you made them a bit smaller, it would be okay. Maybe take your idea with you to the shop and see what they can do with it. Who knows, maybe they’ll find something you never thought of…

    Keep us posted! :O)

I’m totally laughing at your “putting a heart on cattle” comment. LOL I think you have a good idea…take it to someone who is artistic.

  5. I like the foot flower. I think it looks so sweet. But, I also like the vine image. I know, I’m not much help! Good luck with your decision.

  6. Kimberly says:

I would do the second one going around your ankle. I love the baby footprint tattoo idea though. I’ve seen people take in their baby’s actual foot prints and have that shrunk down and copied so it’s not a tattoo of a generic footprint either, it’s really THE little feet you birthed. I’m still pregnant with #3 (who will be the last unless there’s some serious divine intervention), but I’ve thought about doing that after I’m done nursing this one. And I think my mother still reads your blog, so she’s probably freaking out now…hi mom!

    • mommy23monkeys says:

Your mom reads me?? That’s awesome. LOL

I won’t tell her when you get your tattoo…our secrete ;)

      • Chris says:

OH MY!!! Yes Rhea I do read your blog, and enjoy it very much. If we have to have a tattoo I favor the 2nd one, probably around the ankle. And Kimberly YES, I am freaking out, not cool how you break these things to your mom! Hey, it is ya’lls bodies so be it as it may (shaking head) LOL!!!

  7. Stefani says:

I am the tattooed mommy! I have quite a few tattoos. It doesn’t help that I have a friend who is a professional tattoo artist, LOL. I like the first one, but not sure about the middle of it. Maybe you could put names somewhere on it?

I don’t have any tattoos on my feet, but I want one real bad… I recently seen a lady get her babies footprint tattooes on her foot and it looked pretty neat.

Maybe you could do separate tattoos for your kids and then a different one for the surrogate children…. Just an idea…

    • mommy23monkeys says:

I was actually playing with adding names into the swirl on the 2nd one then took them off. I didn’t want to offend the surro babies mommy’s by putting their kiddo’s names on me.

      • Stefani says:

I think the second one with the little feet would work perfect then if you don’t want to add names….

Once you get a tattoo, you know your gonna want another one (even though they hurt).

  8. Stefani says:

Now that I look at both of them, I am really liking the second one too! I like how you have the little pairs of feet……

    Hard decisions!

  9. I like the 2nd one the best. The foot flower is cute, but the swirl with the feet is much cuter!

  10. Paula says:

I like the second one as an anklet. I’ve seen where people put the baby footprint on their foot, too

  11. trisha says:

what about doing something w/ just walking footprints..so it kinda reminds you of the foot prints in the sand poem

  12. renee says:

I like the second one–I think it would look nice on the inside of your arm, say, starting right below the inside bend of your elbow and ending above the inside of your wrist. That’s a nice “meaty” area and shouldn’t hurt too much :)
HAH! I’m loving your tramp stamp comment!

  13. DeborahB says:

I was googling “surrogate tattoos” and your blog came up. This is exactly what I’ve been asking too! I am a 3x surrogate, having delivered 3 sets of twins. I wish there was a surrogate symbol I could get, but I haven’t found one yet. I was thinking of feet too, mine would be a total of 4 blue feet and 2 girl. I know this post was almost a year ago, what did you decide on?

    • mommy23monkeys says:

I have no decided yet! Well, I’ve decided that I want the feet/flower but I haven’t gone it to get it done. Hopefully someday soon!
