I called my family doctor yesterday to find out the results of my foot x-rays. Turns out I DO NOT have a stress fracture!
**HAPPY DANCE**
Of course they have no idea what is wrong with my foot and I should just try to “rest” it.
Um…yeah. Okay.
Not.
Don’t they know I have a 60 mile walk to train for? I must Keep Going®!
They did call me in a prescription, but it was only for Motrin. I don’t know about you, but Motrin doesn’t do much for me. I live on Advil as it is (and Advil is just over-the-counter Motrin). So, I will start my training up again tonight with a short walk (maybe 3 miles) at our High School track. This way, I won’t be far from my car in case my foot starts to give me grief. I plan on taking it easy with short walks, but I definitely need to Keep Going with my training if I want to succeed come November.
And, in case you are wondering about my impending breast biopsy…there is no word on it, yet. I’m actually really frustrated about it. I’ve called my OB every single day since Wednesday (which is when they were supposed to have my radiology reports), and they have not called me back yet. I’ve left 5 messages for a call back. Nothing. Don’t get me started. This is only to schedule the biopsy, I’m not sure why it’s this difficult.
So, that’s what’s up with me. How about you?

I’m so glad it’s not broken Rhea I know how important your walk is for you. As for the doctor’s office I don’t know how far you live from yours but have you thought about trying to stop in and see if you can get a nurse to find out that way? Here I haven’t had to do that but I’ve seen a handful of patients do that. Either way ((hugs)) I hope they call soon.
So glad to hear it’s not broken – I think! Sometimes it’s so frustrating when you don’t know what’s going on. I hope they figure it out soon and get it fixed.
As for your doctor’s, I agree with Brandy – maybe stop in and see about scheduling. It’s definitely a good way to get someone to listen. Something else you might want to think about is if they are taking this long just to schedule it, how long are they going to take to notify you of the results? This is your life we’re talking about and it’s an important enough issue to get taken care of immediately. If they won’t listen to you find a doctor who will.
I went through a terrible time after my son was born with chronic appendicitis. It turned out to be almost fatal. It’s a long story, that I’ll cut short here, but it’s taught me that you have to stand up for your own health. Don’t let doctors push you over, put your foot down and be heard. They are not the ones who will pay the consequences, you and your family are.
Now I’m all fired up and want to fly over there and get you that appointment myself! Good luck and hoping you have answers soon.
Thanks Tesa! Your comment makes me laugh. When I call them today I’ll warn them that I got back up! My mom wants to number to call them, too. LOL Watch out! Here comes momma!
Well good thing it is now broke! I do worry that you are going to make it worse by continuing to practice for your big walk.
Could it be you need a different type of shoe? Maybe ones that fit the arch of your foot?
I’m so glad its not broke but hoping you find an answer to the pain. I have to agree its time to call in some back up. They need to be scheduling you ASAP. Tesa is right in saying you should stop in their office. It’s so easy to ignore a message but they can’t ignore a person standing in their office. Take the kids with you as extra voices. They’ll want to move you on out the door.
If it’s not broke did they do a blood test to see if maybe you have a gout or gout-like condition setting in that foot. My brother-in-law had gout in just one great toe and he was in horrible shape as his job depended on him walking.
They finally did some kind of surgery to help it and also put him on a special diet and gave him a medication for a short time until the diet changes kicked in.
I mean pain is a warning sign so they need to check it out further I’d think.
