It Is Always Sandal Weather in California!

Even though it’s the beginning of Fall where you live, it is still sandal weather here in San Diego (heck, it’s always sandal weather in Southern California!).  I LIVE in women’s sandals and you will rarely find me in anything else.  My husband is convinced that I have problems with my feet because I don’t wear “real” shoes.

What does he know?

I think I have so many pairs of flip flop’s that I’ve lost count.

I have pink ones, black ones, tall ones, and short ones.  Some of them have sparkles (I bought those to offset my ugly walking cast/boot) and one pair even has a little zipper pocket on the strap.  So fancy!  Of course, my very favorite pair is missing one (I blame that on the boys) and so I’ve been very sad.

Some women have closets full of high-heels and Jimmy Choo’s.  I have flip flops.

My brother call’s them “floppers.”  Ha.  Floppers.  Say it out loud.  It’s a funny word and I giggle every time I hear it.

But, really.  I’ve  got a small problem.

Anyhow, I have discovered a great store for flip flop sandals.  Havaianas Sandals has some of THE cutest flip flop’s I’ve seen.  There is a huge selection of colorful and fun shoe’s, and if you happen to need something specific not already for sale, you can actually design your own.  How fun is that?

I think my favorite pair is the “Slim Turkish” which is named after the colorful embroidery patterns created by women in Turkey.  Aren’t they funky?

What kind of shoes do you have in your closet?  Are you a flip flop girl like me or something else?

Nutrilite Fruits and Vegetables 2GO! {Review & Giveaway} (CLOSED)

Nathan will eat his weight in fruit and vegetables all day long.  No joke.  Last night he picked out all of the broccoli from his pasta dinner and ate that along with an entire bowl of cantaloupe.  I practically had to force feed him any pasta or meat.  My mom will buy him buckets of berries from Costco and he will finish it off in a day if I let him.

Of course, twin brother Gabriel is the complete opposite.  He is my carb addict and would be perfectly happy eating nothing but cereal and peanut butter (no jelly) sandwich’s for the rest of his childhood.

Now, I know I am very lucky with Nathan, but I struggle to get Gabriel the vitamins that he needs to stay healthy.  This is where Nutrilite’s Fruits and Vegetables 2GO come in.

Too busy to eat right? Give yourself a twist. NUTRILITE® Fruits & Vegetables 2GO Twist Tubes give you the antioxidant equivalent of two of the 9–13 servings of fruits and vegetables your body needs in a convenient, squeezable tube. Simply twist into a cold, 16-oz. bottle of water and enjoy a refreshing Mango-Citrus treat anytime, anywhere.

I’ve got this box of tubes that would be really easy to toss into a lunchbox or purse to take on the go.  But, I’ve just been using them at home to help get some extra “oomph” into Gabriel’s diet.  I have a large protein drink shaker thing (very technical, I know) and I fill it to the 16 oz mark and squeeze in my Fruits and Vegetables 2GO pack.  I then pour it over ice between the three boys and they are happy to have “YAY! Yummy Juice!” with their lunch.

By the end of the day, if I’ve given them “juice” at each meal, I’ve gotten two more servings of fruits and vegetables into them without them suspecting a thing.

Sneaky mommy!

My FAVORITE part of the drink?  NO ARTIFICIAL COLORS OR PRESERVATIVES.

Excellent for those with Red Dye #40 issues (or any other petroleum based fake color).

Oh, and it actually does taste very delicious.  I bet you could run it through a blender and add some fresh mango and get an amazing smoothie…I’ll have to remember to try that this week.

Nutrilite is a division of Amway and I was hesitant at first because thoughts of Amway usually conjure up cheesy door to door salesmen.  But Amway would not have been in business for over 51 years if they weren’t doing something right.  And this Nutrilite Fruits and Vegetables 2GO is a great product that I am extremely happy with.

Just LOOK at those adorable little faces!  How could I ever give them anything but the best?  I couldn’t.  And the best part here, is that I get to give THREE readers something fabulous, as well.  Go me!

THREE lucky readers will each win their very own box of Nutrilite Fruits and Vegetables 2GO!  YAY!

“The Help” Movie Opens August 10th

I have not read the best-selling novel The Help like the rest of the nation has.  When I first started hearing my friends talk about it, I thought it was some self-help book and asked Cheryl what it was for.  This was just about two weeks ago?  I’m always the last to know things.  I just don’t pay attention I guess.  Then I found out that Dreamworks was hosting a private screening for the movie at BlogHer.  I hadn’t even really decided to go until about thirty minutes before show time.  But at the last minute, I decided it would be a nice break for my feet to sit in a theater and enjoy a movie.

I am SO GLAD that I did!

Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon, “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.

Deeply moving, filled with poignancy, humor and hope, “The Help” is a timeless and universal story about the ability to create change.

 The Help Movie Trailer

This is hands down one of my favorite movies of the year.  Other friends that were at the screening told me that it did not veer too far away from the book and it stayed true to the story.  Since I haven’t read the book, I’ll just have to take their word for it.  But the movie was funny and emotional and suspenseful all at the same time.

I think what gets to me the most is the fact that this stuff really happened.  People in our country treated “free” black people with such disdain.  It’s disgusting to think about (The Titanic movie really effected me, too because for weeks I was in horror that that really happened).  Well segregation really happened and this movie takes a look at that and shows us just how ridiculous all those white people were back then!

My friend Stefani is hosting a The Help Movie Giveaway on her blog where you can win a t-shirt and other goodies.  You might want to check it out.

And here is another The Help Giveaway if you want to up your chances!

Disclose: I was invited to an early screening of The Help during BlogHer but wasn’t required or asked to post about it, I just liked it enough to share.  Go see it.  It’s really great!

NEW Skinny Cow Candy! {Review & Giveaway}

Let me tell you about a little adventure I went on today.  I knew I was going to be a part of a campaign to tell you about the NEW Skinny Cow Candy.  Well I had searched out where to buy Skinny Cow Candy and while several local places carry the Skinny Cow Ice Cream, there was not a single store listed in my po-dunk town for candy.  I was sad.  But my friend told me that her store wasn’t listed either yet they still had the candy.  This was great news to me and I set out on a mission with high hopes.

My little town has two major grocery stores, two drug stores and one “big box” store.  I went down one side of the street and back up the other.  I made it to the very last store that this product could possibly be at and did a little happy dance in the candy isle when I found several varieties staring down at me from the shelf.  I happily loaded up five boxes of candy into my cart and along with my husbands energy drink, headed to check out. Unfortunately for me, I had coupons for individual candies…not boxes of candy.

Note to self:  Read your coupons before loading up your cart.

Anyhow, the guy was so nice even though I’m sure I looked like a dork.  I asked if they sold the individual candies and he said “no.”  So I picked out two of the four varieties and decided to just buy them and go with it.  By this time, I really needed candy.

Moral of this story:  BUY THE CANDY.  Even without the proper coupon because it is SO VERY GOOD!

Unbelievably chocolatey. Melt-in-your-mouth madness. Perfectly yummy portions. Skinny’s new line of chocolate candy weighs in at 110 to 120 calories. So if you’ve been avoiding the candy aisle, welcome back. You’re gonna feel like a kid in a candy store.

Skinny Cow has now brought the same carefree indulgence to candy snacks just like it did with Skinny Cow ice cream we all  know and love.  I bought boxes of the Dreamy Clusters in Dark Chocolate and Heavenly Crisp in Peanut Butter.

I tried the Dreamy Clusters in Dark Chocolate.  Oh.My.Goodness.  These are so delicious.  Really.  They have a salty sweet taste and the crunchy chewy combination is really wonderful.  But with only 120 calories, you don’t have to feel all guilty after eating a pack (or even two!).  My husband LOVED these and stole the last pack out of my box.

MMmmmm…The Peanut Butter Heavenly Crisp.  What can I even say about this?  If you are a fan of peanut butter and chocolate candy then this is perfect for you.  They are a generous size candy bar with layered wafers and peanut butter creme enrobed in creamy milk chocolate.    One of these will totally satisfy your sweet tooth and only cost you 3 points!

Go get your own candy (because my husband ate all mine!)

To celebrate this brand NEW indulgence, Skinny Cow has many buy one-get one FREE specials running in your local stores.  While supplies last, check your local retailers for details.  (HINT:  Click the ad in my sidebar for your coupon!  ===> )

Skinny Cow Candy NOW available in your CANDY ISLE.

Oh Yeah Baby!  The lovely people at Skinny Cow want to give one lucky reader their very own box of Dreamy Clusters.

Let’s Tango With The Rango! {DVD Giveaway!} (CLOSED)

On Friday, July 15, 2011 “Rango” was released to the public on DVD and Blue-Ray.  Me and my mom took the boys to see Rango in theaters and they loved it so I was really excited to get my hands on the DVD!

If you have not already seen Rango, here is a peek:

Johnny Depp does such a great job as Rango, a captive lizard suddenly finding himself loose in the harsh desert.  As with all good kids movies, he quickly becomes the hero of a small, drought stricken town.  It’s funny and clever with “grown-up” tidbits thrown in for the parents.

My boys loved the crude belching fire scenes and all of the talking animals.  You do need to know that there are a few bad words, and the bad guy (the rotten Rattlesnake Jake) can seem pretty scary for real little or sensitive kidlets.  I really enjoyed the movie as did my dad who is a big fan of old westerns.

Rango Blue-Ray and DVD Release

Blu-ray:

• Theatrical and Extended Version

• Commentary—By director, story co-writer and producer Gore Verbinski, head of story James Ward Byrkit, production designer Mark “Crash” McCreery, animation director Hal Hickel and visual effects supervisor Tim Alexander (on Extended Version only)
