Nine Days Until the San Diego 3 Day for the Cure!

Are you ready San Diego?

I know I’m not!

This is where we start to hyperventilate, right?

I’m so not prepared for this.  I have not walked more than seven miles in a training walk.  The good news is that it is easy for me to go seven miles, but the bad news is that seven miles is NOT sixty!  Far from it.  I had plans to go ten miles Sunday after my TV news interview, but I got sick and decided to come home (I think nerves from being on TV got the best of me!).

I do have some good news on the shoe front.  Remember I’ve been saying how the boot makes me two inches taller and therefore makes me limp and get bad pain in my hip?  Well, the amazing people at New Balance are coming through for me (again) and have sent me a pair of their new Rock & Tones.  I am breaking one of the cardinal rules of 3 Day for the Cure training:  Do NOT get a brand new pair of shoes right before the event.  But, the Rock & Tones have a much higher sole and will balance me out (hopefully) decreasing my hip and back pain.  I think this benefit will far outweigh the risk of extra blisters.  Maybe I’m naive for thinking this…but I’m going with it!  I will just plan on wearing my new shoes around the clock for the next week and a half in hopes of softening them up enough for the event.  I am taking a short walk this evening wearing my new shoes so I’ll report back tomorrow on how they did.

I’ll be doing a training walk down in Mission Bay on Thursday morning so that I can show The Filipino Press what all goes into training for an event like this.

I’m also working on getting the clip of me from the news Sunday morning.  I’ll get it posted when I have it, although it’s quite embarrassing how terrible I look.  I don’t even like doing vlogs so live TV was a killer!  But the people at San Diego 6 were so great.  I can’t thank Courtney Dwyer enough for being so nice.

I was so nervous! But it was very exciting and everyone was so nice. Check it out!

Watch My Television Interview on Sunday!

I got an email yesterday from the Energizer® Keep Going® Blogger representative asking me if I would be available for a LIVE television news interview on Sunday morning.

I think I threw up a little.

I mean.  I knew this was a very real possibility when I took on the role of the Keep Going® Blogger.  But then when I am face to face with the email saying it’s happening…NOW… It made me feel a little nauseous.

Don’t get me wrong…I am SO excited!  I’ve just never been on television before and it is really daunting.

I don’t even like to vlog because I’m so critical of myself on video.

Then, my hair looked fabulous three months ago, but today it’s all faded out.  Two days notice isn’t enough time to get an appointment with my stylist.  I’m gonna have to try and re-pink it myself.  Scary thought!

Oy!

I’m such a nerd.

Anyhow.  If you want to see my fabulous self (I keep telling myself I’m fabulous) LIVE on television, then tune in on Sunday (November 7th) morning to the San Diego 6 Morning Show.  The segment is supposed to air at 8:40 am.  Wish me good “don’t throw up and make an ass out of yourself” thoughts, okay?  Thanks!

Keep Going Blogger Press Release

Is it totally lame that I’m tickled about having an official press release written about me?  I’m such a nerd!

Energizer Taps San Diego Resident to be
Keep Going® Blogger

As presenting sponsor for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, the company has selected 15 bloggers in cities across the country to document their experiences

ST. LOUIS (DATE) – Anyone who has participated in a test of endurance knows that the support and encouragement you get can put a bounce in your step and give you the inspiration to reach your goals.  Energizer has found a way to turn up the volume on the celebration of this never-quit spirit by selecting bloggers across the nation to blog about their journey as they train and participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, an event where participants commit to walking 60 miles over the course of three days to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Rhea Tabler, author of the blog Mommy to Three Monkeys, has been selected as the Energizer Keep Going® Blogger for the San Diego event, being held on Nov. 18-20.  Tabler, whose wit, charm and never-quit spirit shine through in her blog located at www.mommy23monkeys.com, has already gotten started on both her blogging and training.

“I am really excited to participate in my first 3-Day for the Cure event,” said Tabler.  “It is a great way to achieve a personal goal while also helping raise money and awareness to help in the search for a cure to breast cancer.”

As the 2010 Presenting Sponsor and Official Battery of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, Energizer  combed the nation looking for bloggers who could spread the word and inspire others to get involved and make it all the way. The 15 Energizer Keep Going Bloggers – one per hosting city – will blog about their successes and challenges as they train.

Jim Olsen, Energizer Vice President of Marketing for North America, says Rhea and other bloggers are great role models for participants at the events, which Energizer is sponsoring for the second year. “We look forward to following the Keep Going Bloggers as they work hard to train and participate in their city’s event,” said Olsen. “We hope that learning about the lives of the bloggers, like Rhea, and monitoring their progress will encourage even more people to participate in these important and meaningful events.”

Mommy to Three Monkeys traces Tabler’s life as a mother of three sons, and now she incorporates her energy,  fun and optimism as she shares her experiences training and walking in the 3-Day for the Cure.

More Fashionable Footwear

I’ve been wearing my walking cast for six weeks now and, it looks like I’ll be wearing it for {at least} another six weeks, too.

I went to my Orthopedist today to get checked up.  I have to say that I love this doctor!  If you need an Ortho, she is Dr. Rina Jain of San Diego Sports Medicine.  She is really trying to get my foot ready to be able to participate in the 3 Day.  She is supportive of the fight against breast cancer and I just love that she’s understanding of my goals.  I think a lot of doctors would be all, “heck no, you can’t walk!” But, Dr. Jain is making this work.

Training has been pretty much non-existent lately.  I’ve gotten a few three mile walks in here and there, but it’s hard walking in this contraption.  First, I am about two inches taller in the boot.  So this means that my New Balance walking shoe is too low and therefor I walk with a huge limp.  Because of this, my hip and back are really out of whack and I’m in a lot of pain after a walk.  Besides that, this boot just is not made for long distance walking.  Simple as that.

Dr. Jain has given me another “shoe” to try.  It’s actually the shoe they give to people in a traditional cast so that they don’t have to walk on crutches.  It’s got a much thinner, very ridged sole.  So now I am even with my sneaker.  This will still make it so that I still can not flex and do more damage to my stress fracture, but it should be easier to do longer distances (no limp, not as hot, etc).

I wore this around a little today.  I’m not sure how it is going to work.  It seems to slip on the heel more than I would like.  But, I am going to try it out tomorrow morning by attempting a five mile training walk.

Wish me luck!
