What Did You Get For Christmas?

This was a really great Christmas for us!  I know I’ve complained a lot about the trials of starting this new job, but getting that first paycheck on the Thursday before Christmas was a LIFESAVER!  I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun Christmas shopping having that disposable money to spend and knowing that I wasn’t taking food off of the table just for the sake of some presents.

My kids are very fortunate to have their Grandma who spoils them to bits.  I almost think Grandma’s presents out-shined Santa’s!

Each of the twins got a big Lego set, the LEGO City Fire Stationand the LEGO Police Station .  They’ve been asking for them since last Christmas and they were finally old enough to get them and actually build them mostly on their own.  Anthony’s big gift was a “real” (yet Anthony proof) digital camera, the Fujifilm FinePix XP20 .  This camera is waterproof, dust proof and shock proof.  He had the memory card full and the battery drained on the first day!  I’ll be setting him up his own Flickr account so he can share his pictures, he’s very excited and I’m proud of my little budding photog.

As for me, my mom is good to me, too.  I was able to score a new set of Philosophy skin care (that I sampled at BlogHer and fell in love with yet couldn’t afford to buy refills).  I got a new Ninja (Anthony broke my last one) and a pretty desert stand.

The least favorite gift I received was a nasty head cold.  I feel like crap!  Anyone else get this extra special gift?  ugh.

Of course there is more but instead of boring you with my amazing gifts, I want to hear about yours instead.  What did you get?  What was your favorite present?  Did your kids get anything fabulous??  Please share!

Something Is Missing

I lost my tooth tonight… I wiggled and wiggled and wiggled…I was eating my cookie and then it started to hurt a lot when it came out I ran out and my mom yelled “aaaaaaaaa!” I was happy then I got another paper towel and then I went in the living room and I smiled at my dad and he laughed at me.  My mom took a couple pictures. I was happy a lot of  blood came out of the hole and now another tooth is loose!

The above is Anthony’s story of losing his first tooth.  I can not believe his little body waited until he was seven years old to lose the first one!  I don’t like my babies growing up.  Not.One.Bit.

Children and Religion

I turned on the Western Republican Debate tonight and Anthony was asking me about it.  The conversation started out talking politics but then the candidates turned to  the subject of religion in office and Anthony asked if one of the people was a Jehovah’s Witness.  I told him, “no…where did you hear about them?”  It turns out that one of his classmates is a Jehovah’s Witness and he was wondering about it because his friend was not going along on their class field trip to the pumpkin patch.

He started asking about what they believe, if they believe in God and why they don’t celebrate Halloween.

I really did not think twice about turning to Google to answer his questions.

We spent a good amount of time looking up facts about what they believe and discussing the differences between their religion and ours.

So, my question to you, is:  Would you have looked up information on another Religion for your child?  Do you only teach your own beliefs without exposing your children to other ways of thinking?   Why or why not?

Just my random wondering for the day.

Feeding the Giraffes

Kids are FREE at the San Diego Zoo for the month of October.  So my mom and I took them down this past weekend.  We had THE MOST fun!  Something new that they are offering is the chance to feed the giraffes.  For $5.00 you get 3 biscuits (they look like dog treats!).  We spent half of the day at the giraffe exhibit waiting to buy tickets, then waiting to feed them, the actual feeding took about 30 seconds.  But it was so worth it!

Gabriel and Nathan were nervous at first.

I’m so bummed that I didn’t get Anthony’s face in this picture.  He was grinning so big.

So excited!

Have you ever fed giraffes?  I actually got to feed some on a tour at the San Diego Safari Park a few years ago and I couldn’t wait to take my boys back to do that with me (they have to be 13 I think).  So it was a real treat to get to have the experience at the Zoo.
