I Bet You’ve Never Seen Cake Pops Like These

Boobie Cake Pops!

Honestly, my boobies are not as cute as I’d hope they would be…

Sounds like something an adolescent girl might say , huh?

I wish I could take the talent and patience that Bakerella has in her pinky and just borrow it sometimes.  Because I had grand dreams of these adorably fun boobie cake pops to serve tonight at our Bingo for Boobies fund raising party.  But…

My boobies are uneven.

My boobies are lumpy.

My boobies have cracks in them.

Sounds like something a middle aged women might say, huh?

Maybe the colors are off?  Maybe it’s the GIANT “nipples?”  I’m not sure.  I don’t know how Bakerella gets her cake pops so even and smooth!

In any case.  I guess I just have to work with what I got.  They are still very delicious!

I made them using Bakerella’s cake pop recipe:

  • 1 box of cake mix baked according to package descriptions (I used strawberry because I wanted pink).
  • 1 tub of  frosting (again, I used strawberry).
  • pink candy melts
  • brown candy melts

Once my cake was cooled, I stuck it in my Ninja to crumble it uniformly.  Then using my hands, I mooshed the cake and frosting together to form a sticky gooey mess of “dough.”  I rolled them out and stuck them in the freezer for an hour to harden.

Once hard(er), I melted the pink candy melts according to the package directions and dipped my balls of cake.

Now, here is where I messed up.  I let the pink balls set up.  I had the thought of melting the brown (peanut butter flavored) candy melts and then doing a “dip and swirl” to create my nipples.  But they looked so bad!   I was really upset last night and started thinking that my boobie cake pops would never come to fruition.

But Bob came along and suggested that that I just remelt the pink a little so that I could stick a whole, un-melted brown candy melt on the tops.  So here I popped my cake pops into the oven on warm for just about 5 minutes to soften the candy shells.  Once soft, I was able to stick the brown on top and they stuck.  It worked brilliantly!

When I thanked my husband for his winning suggestion he reminded me, “well, I am a professional.”

Men.

All in all, I am happy with the way they turned out.  They are cute now that they are decorated.

Let the lesson be, that even if you have lumpy, cracked boobies with giant nipples, a little decorating can fix them right up pretty!

Did You Come to Our Bake Sale?

If you did not come, then you missed out!  We had a table full of goodies.  I thought we would not have enough, but we ended up with a ton of leftovers.  People are seriously amazing and even though they may not have wanted a baked good, they would still drop, $5, $10 or sometimes $20 into our donation bucket.

My favorite people that came through was a fire fighting team from Sacramento.  I’m not sure why they were down here since we don’t currently have any fires….?  I don’t remember what they were called, but they are the crazy ones that go into the back country and do the down and dirty forest fire fighting.  Anyhow, there were some mighty fine looking men in that group and a lot of them just dropped bills into our bucket without taking anything in return.  They were awesome.  Did I mention they were nice to look at?  Maybe I did…

I learned a few things doing this fund raiser.  People are amazing.

We did not have prices on anything (except the t-shirts, which we sold 2 of).  Everything went for a donation.  This is a great way to get more money for your cause.  By putting a price tag on something, then expect to get that price.  Say $1.oo for a cupcake.  But if you leave it open, then your customers will certainly rise to the occasion and more than likely they will give you more.  I think we averaged about $5 a treat, easy.

I had a great time baking and getting things ready.  I made some Bakerella Cake Pops, blondies, and peanut butter cupcakes.  We got some donations of chocolate chip cookies, zucchini bread, banana bread and no-bake coco cookies.  All this was in addition to our pink ducks, bracelets, candles and antenna toppers.

We needed a bigger table!

I was also just tickled pink (ha…pink) by the amount of compliments I got on our table display. Several people asked if we did catering! That’s actually something I’ve always loved doing so this made me happy.  Of course, everyone loved my Energizer Bunny and tried to buy him, too.

At the end of the day we made $340.00 towards the Susan G. Komen 3 Day for the Cure.  This was a lot less work and a lot more fun than busting our butts at our rummage sale last week.  We’ve decided we are going to do it again soon and have a breakfast table (that was the busiest time) with blueberry muffins and the like.

If you are in the Ramona, CA area please print the following flier and bring it to the Ramona Rubio’s this Wednesday, September 1st.  When you present the flier to the cashier they will donate 20% of your bill to our fund raising efforts.  The fund raiser is scheduled from 4pm to close, but I plan on being there at 6pm for dinner.  Come have dinner with me!

So, thank you to my friends and fellow Ramona residents that came out to see us on Saturday!  Stay tuned for details of our next fund raiser…we’ve still got a long way to go.

I am No Bakerella

Have you seen this blog, Bakerella?  She is amazing!  I wish I had one tiny bit of her talent.  I was introduced to this site through Baking with Bridgette at the Not So Blog.  So I got the brilliant idea that I would make some of her cake pop’s for Easter.  They looked easy enough.

Making the pops were very easy.  Baked a cake, ran it through my food processor and added some frosting.  Was very easy to roll into balls.  But since I decided not to put my pop’s on a stick, getting the white chocolate outer shell wasn’t so great.  I couldn’t get it uniform and had several bald spots from my spoon.  I can see how dipping them with a stick into the chocolate would have probably been easier.

Then I started to draw the faces on the bunnies.  The Wilton edible pens I had paid $8 bucks on sucked.  So Bob found some leftover black frosting from some other project and we ended up using that to make their faces.

In this picture, you can see my faceless bunnies.  My mom thought they looked like pigs.

(yeah, I know I am not a good food photographer.  Sorry)

Here is one of the cuter ones.

What do you think?  Please be kind.

Needless to say, my Easter Bunny Cake Pop’s are not nearly as cute as Bakerella’s.  But I think the kids will be happy enough with them.

Have a Happy Easter!!
