Naughty Easter Bunny

I’m sure the Easter Bunny was thinking that Silly Putty would be a super fun, non-candy item to include in my six year old’s Easter Basket.  I’m sure he didn’t realize that my kid would try and imprint the putty on his head.  There is no way to have known that.  I mean, the package does say “not for children under 36 months” and Anthony is well over that mark.   It certainly seemed like a safe bet.

He really should have known better.

But accidents happen, right?  He never had Silly Putty before.  He imprints PlayDo on his head all the time without incident.  So how was he to really know?

He was feeling so sad at the loss of this very cool new thing.   He promised to only do right from now on.  So after the “incident” was cleaned up I thought I would get him some more putty.

What is that little riddle people say?

Fool me once…shame on you.
Fool me twice….shame on me?

Something like that?

Well…shame on me.

Lesson learned.

A Terrible Way To Die

{Anthony is a Cub Scout.  They sing songs for everything. At den meetings they sing a song for announcements to get the boys’ attention:  “Announcements!  Announcements!  Announcements!  A terrible way to die!  A terrible way to die!  A terrible way to be talked to death, a terrible way to die!”}

I have a small bag of chocolate chips in my pantry that Anthony asked me if he could eat.

I told him “no, those are for Easter cookies on Saturday night.”

He replied, “but you already made Easter cookies.”

{I made super cute bunnies and eggs!}

“But we are going to make special Easter cookies that remind us of the reason we celebrate Easter.”

“Why do we celebrate Easter?”

“We celebrate Easter because that is when Jesus died and came back to life”

“Why did Jesus die?”

“Well, these people didn’t believe in our religion and thought he was a bad man.  They were afraid of him.  So they the were really mean and hurt him, then nailed him up on a cross and let him bleed to death.  It was a terrible way to die.”

And then Anthony started SINGING:  “a terrible way to die…a terrible way to die…!!”

I just stared in disbelief at him and he said, “well, it was a terrible way to die, mom.”

“Yes.  Yes it was.  We just don’t usually sing it like that.”

Easter 2010 in Pictures

Easter was a really great day!  It was a beautiful Southern California day, high 60′s and sunny.  We started out the day by going to my aunts house for brunch and an Easter egg hunt.  It was really great this year to watch the twins hunting for eggs without assistance.  We didn’t even have to explain it to them…they were pro’s!

My aunt has a pretty large piece of property and it was FILLED with eggs, candy and even some cotton candy buckets.  All of the children (10 total) were in sugar heaven.

My niece, Rhea

Here is our half way decent picture of mine and my brother’s kids.

After brunch we came back to our house for the second half of our day.  My uncle Rick came over with my cousin Jovanna.  Carina and Aaron came up with Penelope.  In the afternoon we ate more food and searched for more eggs.

Rylee.  Don’t let the pretty dress and sweet smile fool you!  I wish the dirt on her dress showed better, she was a mess!

mmmm….more sugar!  Look at the dirt on  his face!

One of my favorite pictures of the day.  Pretty Rhea and Anthony looking like a hoodlum!

Gabe had the best time blowing bubbles!

Jovi.  She’s currently participating in a beauty pageant. LOL

And sweet Penelope.  All smiles the day before her next round of chemotherapy starts.

It was an awesome day.  So thankful to have spent it with the people I love the most.  How was your holiday?

Easter Eggs!

The boys colored eggs last night.  It’s always so stressful for me…anything “artsy.”  With three of them going off, trying to be independent…with permanent dye no less.  Luckily, 18 eggs don’t last too long between 3 boys and it was over quicker than the time it took me to set up.  I do think they did a good job and their eggs turned out beautiful (if I don’t say so myself).

I actually really loved these “puffy” letter stickers that came in the Spongebob kit.  They were cute.

Have you colored eggs yet?  Heather at Home to Heather had some cute egg dying tips you might want to check out.  I wish I had thought about the cookie tray one, only because I think we lost about 6 eggs to rolling off the table and breaking.  I think a cookie sheet would have helped with that a lot.  I hope I remember to try it next year.

I am No Bakerella

Have you seen this blog, Bakerella?  She is amazing!  I wish I had one tiny bit of her talent.  I was introduced to this site through Baking with Bridgette at the Not So Blog.  So I got the brilliant idea that I would make some of her cake pop’s for Easter.  They looked easy enough.

Making the pops were very easy.  Baked a cake, ran it through my food processor and added some frosting.  Was very easy to roll into balls.  But since I decided not to put my pop’s on a stick, getting the white chocolate outer shell wasn’t so great.  I couldn’t get it uniform and had several bald spots from my spoon.  I can see how dipping them with a stick into the chocolate would have probably been easier.

Then I started to draw the faces on the bunnies.  The Wilton edible pens I had paid $8 bucks on sucked.  So Bob found some leftover black frosting from some other project and we ended up using that to make their faces.

In this picture, you can see my faceless bunnies.  My mom thought they looked like pigs.

(yeah, I know I am not a good food photographer.  Sorry)

Here is one of the cuter ones.

And for direct comparison, a mine and her’s shot.

What do you think?  Please be kind.

Needless to say, my Easter Bunny Cake Pop’s are not nearly as cute as Bakerella’s.  But I think the kids will be happy enough with them.

Have a Happy Easter!!
