Are You Ready to Have a Tasty Holiday?

Sara Lee and Hillshire Farms have created a very cool holiday website full of tasty ideas.

www.tastyholidayideas.com

On this website you can find lots of holiday ideas to make your celebration perfect.  There are recipes, games and even a contest where you can enter to win a $500.00 Walmart gift card!

I think this is my new favorite recipe using Lit’l Smokies:

skewersLit’l Smokie Skewers

Ingredients:

  • 1 can chunk pineapple, drained
  • 1 red or green (or both) pepper chopped into 1″ squares
  • 1 lb Hillshire Farms Lit’l Smokies Cocktail Links (any variety)
  • 1 lb asparagus cut into 2″ pieces
  • 1 bottle prepared Sweet & Sour sauce

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Skewer the pineapple, pepper, asparagus and Lit’l Smokie.  Place on baking tray or cookie sheet and apply sweet & sour sauce.  Bake for 15 minutes.

In addition to some great recipes, the Tasty Holiday website also has a contest going where you can win a $500.00 Walmart gift card.  All you need to do to enter is submit your story (with pictures) about how Sara Lee and Hillshire Farms have made your holiday’s special.

Don’t forget that you can get all your holiday entertaining supplies at Walmart!

Holiday Appetizer Ideas

Do you love Lit’l Smokies?  I kinda do.  I think they are delish and provide a center piece to so many different recipes.  They make great and easy appetizers for your holiday’s, too.  I wanted to share some ideas in case you were still looking for something to entertain your guests or for taking to your family’s party.

  • Lit’l Smokies in a Blanket.  This is a super easy classic.  Just separate a package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and wrap up your Lit’l Smokies.  Bake them until the rolls are browned on top and heated through (use the Crescent Roll instructions as a guideline).
  • Tim’s Little Smokies Recipe.  I haven’t tried this one but came across it and think it sounds SO yummy!
  • Bar-B-Que Smokies.  Another easy and delicious recipe.  Just put a package (or two, or three) in a crockpot and cover with your favorite bar-b-que sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray’s or KC Masterpiece).  Cook 5 hours until hot on low heat.  Keep warm in the crockpot and serve with toothpicks, cheese and crackers.
  • Hot Lil Wieners.  I haven’t tried this recipe either, but the name made me laugh.
  • Bacon Wrapped Lit’l Smokies.  From the Pioneer Woman Kitchen.  How can you resist?

Hillshire Farms also makes a Turkey Lit’l Smokie that has 2/3 less fat than the original.  Although, I don’t know why anyone would want to cook with less fat on the holidays!  Kidding.  Kinda.

Lit’l Smokies Original, Turkey, All Beef, and Cheddar varieties are all available at Walmart.

What do you like to cook with Lit’l Smokies?  I would love to hear some new recipes.
