Remember how I showed you all my boobies yesterday? Well, the imaging center called today and the doctor (radiologist?) wants me to come in for a breast ultrasound to look at the right side “a little closer.”
The tech told me yesterday that this was common and usually just the result of overlapping tissues.
Doesn’t make me feel any less queasy.
I have to wait until the 23rd. Think happy boobie thoughts for me, please. Well, you don’t really have to think about my boobies…oh…well…nevermind.
HA! Fooled ya. Sometimes I’m so amused with myself…
But really, these are my boobs. I had my first “baseline” mammogram today at age 37. I know that it’s one of those things that women dread, but I’m here to share my experience with you and tell you to chill out. It’s really not that bad. Really.
I am not yet 40 years old, the recommended age to start having mammograms. And I don’t have any direct family members that have been diagnosed (sister and grandma are “step” and my aunt is by marriage). But my OB/GYN recommended I have a baseline scan done now and since I’m participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk in November, I agreed to do it.
I went to the Grossmont Imaging Center this morning at 10am. Mycah was my technician and she was awesome. Very sweet and laughed at me when I told her I wanted to take pictures. I only wish I would have thought to take my video camera down. teehee! She was professional and made me feel comfortable.
The actual mammogram was over in about 5 minutes. You take your shirt off and wear one of those uber attractive paper tops. Then you put one boob up, then the other. Then they repeat with a side view. That’s it. I had heard stories of it being “excruciating” and the “worse experience ever.” I personally don’t know what kind of crack these people were smoking because it was none of these things.
Maybe there is a correlation between breast size and whether it hurts? Because I am large chested (D’s) and now that I think about it, the one’s who have had a bad experience’s were smaller chested. Something to think about…
Anyhow, it was over quick. No pain. I’m told that my doctor should call me sometime next week to discuss any results. My tech, Mycah, was nice enough to explain that usually repeat mammograms need to be performed because of unclean scans and “overlapping” tissue. So if they call next week and want me to go back…I’m not to panic. I appreciated her explaining that to me.
Now I wait…
