Small Obsession

I’m developing a little infatuation with old vintage travel trailers.  I’ve always liked them.  They are cute and charming.  I’m starting to peruse Craigslist more often looking for old trailers for sale that perhaps I could restore them and make them colorful and fun and mine.

My family thinks I’m nutty.

I’ve been following the journey of Britt Reints as she dropped everything to travel in a trailer with her family.  Her family of four live in a trailer.  They sold everything and off they went.

I am so envious of her spirit.  I want to restore an old trailer and then go off and live this spirit, but too many “real life” complications make me afraid to just pick up and go.  I’ve told Bob that we should do it.  Unfortunately, he’s entirely too practical.

In the meantime (while I talk Bob into selling everything and moving into a tiny trailer) I’m mentally making a list of the first places I would like to visit.  In no particular order, for no particular reason (well…I LOVE New Orleans and would love to visit every chance I’m given).

Portland Oregon

I’ve been to Portland and it is absolutely gorgeous.  Perhaps it’s all the rain that they get, but the surrounding areas are lush and green and it is like wandering through a magical forest.  Even the city is pretty.  I think parking a little trailer next to one of their many rivers would be heaven.

Grand Canyon West Rim Skywalk

It is no secret around here that I LOVE the Grand Canyon.  I’ve been to both the South and North Rim’s (North is so beautiful!) but I’ve never been to the West Rim…home of the Skywalk.  Now, the Skywalk scares the bejesus out of me…but WOW!  Can you imagine those views?  I might just have to take a Xanax and do it!

Park City Utah (photo credit: Jill Richards/National Geographic)

I have never visited Park City but I’ve seen pictures of the area and it is just gorgeous.  All of my boys would love to learn to snowboard, so what better place to learn that picturesque Utah?  It is a growing community and Rustler Homes look like it would be a beautiful place to live (if I ever decided to settle down again).

New Orleans, Louisiana

My favorite city in the world.  *sigh*  I have yet to be in the city during a Mardi Gras so I would hang out in NOLA during the Spring time, before it gets too humid.  It is an amazingly vibrant city and I would love for my boys to learn about the culture in this old charming city.

So, if you had a travel trailer and planned on taking off to explore this great country of ours….where would you go first?  What is somewhere you would visit?  Would you plan it out or just go where the wind blew you?

Day 1 of The Best Weekend Ever

First let me say “Thank You” to my personal sponsor, The Pretty Peacock.  Anna is a strong supporter of social media and believes in the power of bloggers.  Without her her help, I may not have even made it to New Orleans this past weekend.  Please “Like” The Pretty Peacock on Facebook.  You won’t be disappointed.  They are constantly sharing giveaways, discounts and new products.  I can’t say how much I just love this company!  While you are here, stop by and enter the giveaway going on until July 30th.

I was in the air headed for Bloggers on Bourbon at 6:15am Friday morning.  I was so excited, I hardly slept the night before.  The anticipation of meeting up with some of my favorite online people was just overwhelming.  What if they don’t like me?  What if I don’t like them?  This was my first time really stepping out to meet an entire group of new people and I was on my own.

I landed in New Orleans at 2:35pm.  I’d made arrangements to meet up with fellow blogger, Elizabeth since we were landing at the same time.  She was easy to find and I thought she was great!  So happy to be there.  Elizabeth was a riot and I will never forget her pink wig!

Elizabeth was nice.  So far so good.  We arrived at the hotel.  Immediately I hear a loud “IT’s RHEA!” from across the street.  I look over and see Kas and Britany running at me with hugs.  All my fears disappeared and I knew at that point everything was going to be great!

The first few hours were spent meeting people that I felt I already “knew.”  None of them were strangers.  It was just a lot of  “Oh, HI’S!” to people I recognized and it felt like meeting up with old friends.  It was a great feeling.  We spent time in Trisha’s GIANT suite at the Prince Conti hotel.  I got my “credentials” and decorated my name tag.  Got the itinerary and headed up to my room to get ready for dinner.

My awesome roommate was Kim from What’s That Smell.  I loved sharing a room with Kim because she’s smart, funny and didn’t snore or hog the bathroom.  I just hope she can say the same thing about me!

6pm Friday night:  Dinner at Besh Steakhouse at Harrah’s Casino. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. dinner sponsored by Harrah’s Casino.  I chose to have the “Surf and Turf” dinner but asked them to “hold the surf.”  It was delicious.  It was great to sit down and finally get to start chatting with my new friends.

8:15pm Friday night:  Ghost Tour sponsored by Lingerie.com. Honestly, I was terrified of going on a ghost tour.  I do not like to be scared.  At all.  But this tour was fascinating.  We were led around the French Quarter on a Haunted History Tour by Kalila Smith who is author of French Quarter paranormal books.  She was funny and entertaining and I loved listening to her accounts of the history behind the haunting’s.  The building in the above picture is called the LaLaurie House.  She told of horrifying deaths that happened there and it’s well known to be the most haunted house in New Orleans.  I was just star struck to find it was recently owned by Nicolas Cage!  I do know that I tried to take several pictures of the building and my camera would not let me.  Only this one made it through.  Was it a ghost or operator error…I’ll never know.

After the ghost tour, I hobbled back to the hotel.  My feet were terribly blistered since I did not wear shoes made for walking around the quarter.  But I did not let the blisters stop me.  We changed and headed out dancing!  Holy cow, I have not danced in a very long time.  I had a great time.

If this seems like a long post…it is.  It was a very long day.  I found myself passing out around 3am.

More to come tomorrow…

What About BOB?

I talk about “Bob” a lot since I’m married to one, but recently “BOB” has taken on a whole new, very exciting and FUN meaning.

Well, that didn’t sound right.  I’m not saying MY Bob isn’t fun…but well…never mind.

Anyhow, On July 23rd I’ll be flying out to meet some of the best and brightest bloggers in the world wide web.

I’m SO excited!

About Bloggers on Bourbon (aka  BOB):

Social media is about meeting, connecting, and walking away with a stronger bond with those we spend every day with online. What better way to do that in a vacation destination that wasn’t dependent on classes or learning, but was completely focused on friendship and relationship building.

Wordless Wednesday ~ Good Times~

In 2002, I earned an expenses paid trip to New Orleans from my job.  It was a sales reward for getting lucky and earning a lot of commissions.  I didn’t have any kids yet, it was just me and Bob.  I had always wanted to go to New Orleans and it did NOT disappoint.  It was an amazing city and left me with lots of wonderful memories.

3.  New Orleans, LA.  FUN FUN FUN!  This is one place that I actually have been to.  About 5 years ago me and my husband got to spend a weekend there.  I WON the trip from my work.  Cool, huh?  The history is amazing.  I spent a few weeks looking for houses because I wanted to move there, that’s how much I loved this city.  If I had more time, I’d go find the picture of ME under the Bourbon street sign.  But hunny is sleeping and I don’t want to go wake him up.  Maybe if you come back later in the day, I’ll change it. :)
