Cheryl Tagged Me

It’s funny how friendships work.  I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of people in real life and online.  I have friends that I’ve remained close to since Jr. high school.  But when you spend as much time online as I do, your friendships change.  Writing and promoting this blog, I spend allll.daaay.looong online.  And because I spend all this time online, I met Cheryl.

Cheryl is the author of Beautiful Side of Hectic and she writes about her little Canadian family that is both adorable and hysterical.

I adore Cheryl!

We literally spend all day chatting with each other.  We will have facebook chat, google chat and MSN messenger all open…at the same time.  Then if we can’t find each other online, then we call on the phone or text.  Texting Cheryl cost me $30 bucks last month since she lives in Canada.  That sucks.  Luckily for us, my iPhone lets me use MSN and Facebook chat without charging extra.  Thank God for iPhone’s!

The reason I am telling you this is because Cheryl tagged me.  I don’t usually participate in this type of nonsense since honestly, I just don’t have time, and I really don’t feel I have creative answers for these kinds of things.  But, because it’s Cheryl, and I adore her, I will play along.

Besides, I’m in Arkansas right now and I needed to schedule some posts in advance…

If you were a doll, the accessories packaged with you would be:

Flip flops and sunglasses.

I have an irrational fear of:

Heights.  While I loved going to the Grand Canyon, I was literally sick to my stomach the entire time.  I would panic when Bob went out on the edges.  I think he did it on purpose just to screw with me.  And even on TV, if they show people looking out from somewhere high, I will get nauseous.  Watching Avatar…almost threw up.  It’s bad.

What would you do if you were stranded on an island with the person you hate most?

Well, I don’t really hate anyone (I don’t think).  There are a lot of people that annoy the heck out of me, but I don’t hate them.  Anyhow, hopefully there would be alcohol there so I would just drink.  Then it wouldn’t matter.

I find the thought of childbirth:

Amazing.  I would love to go back to school to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse.  How cool would that be??

My toenails are:

In bad need of a pedicure.

Who is your partner in crime?

In “real” life, nobody really.  I’m probably the most colorful of all my friends and all of them just tolerate me.  Cheryl, you my friend are my online partner in crime and I do believe that if we lived near each other, nothing would ever get done!

What was the last thing to make you cry?

I was talking to Crystal on the phone about surrogacy.  She asked about the moment when you “give” the baby to it’s parents and how that felt.  I teared up explaining to her that the moment you place this very loved and longed for child in their mothers arms is like no other.

What’s most confusing to you?

Confusing?  I’m never confused.  I know it all.

What is one thing you’ve learned about life?

It’s precious and nothing is ever guaranteed.

Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?

Nope.

There you have it, Cheryl.  I hope you are happy.  I guess the rules of the game say I’m supposed to tag 10 more people now and send them some questions, but because I’m nice, I won’t torture anyone else.  You’re welcome.

GIVEAWAY/REVIEW ~ Shidonni.com (Closed)

shidonnismall

Officially, I think that Shidonni is one of the coolest online play and creativity websites ever!

Mr. A. loves to play on my computer.  All day long I listen to him asking me if he can play this or that game.  For a 4 year old, he does really well getting around online, but I’m constantly having to redirect him back to an appropriate website.  He ends up clicking on ads and sidebars and goes who knows where into cyberland.

So when we got offered the chance to try Shidonni.com, I jumped at it.

From Shidonni:

“Shidonni is a virtual world for children, ages and up, based on the idea of drawing animals and caring for them, but with a 21st century twist.

Visitors to the site receive a blank canvas where they can draw an animal and create a background for that animal to play. After drawing their virtual pets, children play with them as they magically ‘come alive’. Children then care for, feed and play games that incorporate their animals as main characters.

Shidonni, unlike other virtual worlds, stays away from motivations that are based on money and goods. It encourages their imagination and motivates children to create animals and backgrounds. Shidonni then rewards them for their efforts by providing special effects, such as music, design effects, and more.

The site empowers kids to create their own worlds and play with them in a safe, fun environment. By providing kids with drawing tools rather than “ready made” elements, Shidonni promotes imagination, creativity and computer skills in kids ages 4 and up.”

Here is a sample of some art that your child can create with Shidonni:

Here is what my 4 year old created.  Now the deer was imported as a “friend” and I drew the house :)

My favorite part of Shidonni, is actually the fact that you can increase the screen by clicking the little magnifying glass.  It makes it so your little one can’t accidentally click on your tool bar and inadvertently end up somewhere else.  The play land and games go entirely full screen!  Here is my screen shot.  No tool bars, no google, nothing.  Nice!

I could safely go in the other room while he stayed down here playing around and going through the games.  Another thing I liked was that the games are fairly simple in instruction.  Little to no reading was involved.  So my 4 year old was very easily able to figure out and play the games.

Here is a little video clip so you can see Mr. A’s “animal” in action.  You can feed your animals and it actually makes munching sounds and follows the food around.  It was super cute.

You can go play Shidonni now.  It doesn’t cost anything to sign up and get the basic service.  The basic  site allows for you to create some animals and play a few games.  It goes to full screen and plays cheerful music.

But for THE most fun, you will want to sign up for Shidonni Pro.  Shidonni Pro allows you to get an ultimate set of creation tools and effects.  You get the ability to dress up your animals and will have access to the latest and greatest that Shidonni has to offer.
