Benefit Concert for Pennies 4 Penny!

If you are new around these parts then perhaps you have not met my cousin Penelope.  On February 26, 2010 my cousin’s (nearly) one year old daughter, Penny was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma.  It was devastating news that tested my cousin’s little family more than any new family should have to be tested.  On top of the horrifying news that sweet little Penny was going to be in the fight for her life, they learned that their privately paid medical insurance was only going to cover about 60% of Penny’s treatments.  That made a stressful situation that much worse.

So…It’s time for another fund raiser!

This time my brother, Eric from www.ultimatelocalmusic.com has whipped up a rock out kind of party to raise some more money for Penny.

Molly Malone’s is a very cool sports tavern here in Ramona and they are donating the space for this fundraiser.  Ultimate Local Music works with many San Diego rock and roll bands and they have partnered with bands who are donating their time to perform for you!

Her Bed of Thorns, Canonbliss, Natural Selection, Dead Serial Killers and Against the World are all scheduled to perform.

There will be raffle prizes, including autographed memorabilia.

$10 at the door.

If you are unable to make it up, please consider donating at Pennies4Penny.org.  Every little bit still helps this little girl fight for her life.

Please share this information with your friends!

Head Out to the Queen Bee Market this Saturday

Are you in San Diego?  Do you LOVE handmade goodies?  Do you have a giant amount of change laying around your house?

Of course you do!

Then head out to the Queen Bee Market this Saturday, May 1st from 10am to 6pm.

What is the Queen Bee Market, you ask?

The Queen Bee Market- a hip, modern, and fresh handmade art and gift show in the San Diego area. Held on Saturday, May 1st, perfectly timed for the week before Mother’s Day and beautiful San Diego weather (but really, when isn’t it beautiful weather in San Diego?). Unlike any other craft fair or boutique, Queen Bee will feature vendors from all over the handmade scene. With purses, jewelry, home decor, children’s items, accessories, baby products and more- you won’t want to miss out. There’s sure to be something for everyone. In addition to unique product, we’ll also be focusing our attention on giving back to the San Diego area.

Pennies4Penny.org is one of the local San Diego charities that will be benefiting from this years market.  They will have collection jars set up around the market where you can quite literally leave your Pennies for Penny.

So head on out and spend a beautiful day in Carlsbad, CA.  Take your change jars for Penny and find some handmade goodies for yourself!

Shaving My Head for Penny!

I’ve always been a little bit of a nut and willing to do most anything…depending on the circumstances.  When everything started happening with Penelope, I naturally wanted to help raise money for them.  I came across a blog post of Kristen where she announced she was going to shave her head to raise money for pediatric cancer research…St. Baldricks.

I was intrigued.

My mother egged me on…”you should totally shave your head!”

hahahahaha….not.

BUT.  Then I started to really think about it.  It’s just hair.  It will grow back.

Maybe I could do this.  Maybe I will do this.

So, I’m doing it.

Starting today, I will take donations from you.  Right on my sidebar you can donate and track my progress.  Every single penny I raise will go to Pennies4Penny.org and my beautiful cousin’s medical bills.  She is only just beginning her fight against Stage 4 Neuroblastoma and has a very long and expensive road ahead of her.  Why not donate to her and in return, you’ll get some entertaining video of a bald lady?

I even have it on a hunch that Penny’s mom & dad might join in…no promises, but you might be getting 3 or 4 bald heads out of this little adventure.

When the day comes and I have raised $5000.00 I will have a head shaving party!  I will video tape it and post the video and pictures here on my blog.  The hair that I cut off will be donated to Locks of Love.

Please help me reach my goal!!!  You won’t really even be “helping” me, but a sweet little girl who just celebrated her 1st birthday.  A little girl that should be looking forward to the rest of her life, not looking out of the hospital window.  A beautiful child who should be learning to walk, but can’t because of the grapefruit size tumor that is pressing on her spine.  This little girl:

Easter 2010 in Pictures

Easter was a really great day!  It was a beautiful Southern California day, high 60′s and sunny.  We started out the day by going to my aunts house for brunch and an Easter egg hunt.  It was really great this year to watch the twins hunting for eggs without assistance.  We didn’t even have to explain it to them…they were pro’s!

My aunt has a pretty large piece of property and it was FILLED with eggs, candy and even some cotton candy buckets.  All of the children (10 total) were in sugar heaven.

My niece, Rhea

Here is our half way decent picture of mine and my brother’s kids.

After brunch we came back to our house for the second half of our day.  My uncle Rick came over with my cousin Jovanna.  Carina and Aaron came up with Penelope.  In the afternoon we ate more food and searched for more eggs.

Rylee.  Don’t let the pretty dress and sweet smile fool you!  I wish the dirt on her dress showed better, she was a mess!

mmmm….more sugar!  Look at the dirt on  his face!

One of my favorite pictures of the day.  Pretty Rhea and Anthony looking like a hoodlum!

Gabe had the best time blowing bubbles!

Jovi.  She’s currently participating in a beauty pageant. LOL

And sweet Penelope.  All smiles the day before her next round of chemotherapy starts.

It was an awesome day.  So thankful to have spent it with the people I love the most.  How was your holiday?

Amazed at the Kindness of Strangers

I just know you were wondering….

Rhea…where have you been?

I have been online day and night for over a week organizing and executing the fund raising auction for my cousin Penelope.

It has been exhausting!

But I found something along the way that I thought was lost.  There are still good people in this world.  Heck, there are AMAZING people in this world.  And here I thought they were all gone.

Strangers: companies and individual’s alike, all willing to donate items for auction to help a little person they had never and will probably never even meet.  Even more people coming out to bid on these items and tweet the auction and tell their friends about it.

Astounding!

There are still wonderful and giving people in this world.

And because of this, I have been a very busy little girl!

Over the next week or so I will introduce you to some of the companies that helped out Penny.  There were over 50 donated items!  I get an email every day from someone else wanting to still donate.  It’s crazy.  And to thank them, and to pass on the good Karma, I will introduce you to them here.  Then you will know that there are good, unselfish companies out there still willing to do good for the sake of doing good…not because they required any recognition.

And please know that I am still here.  Once I have all the winning bidders matched up to the sponsoring companies I will start posting more.  I made home made syrup the other day that was the BOMB.  Can’t believe I’ve never done it before.  So I have a recipe to share.  Also, Anthony has his first Science Fair exhibition today so of course I need to talk about that.

So please be patient with me.  I’m here.
