Two Thousand Ten

Oh my goodness.  It’s two thousand ten!  Or is it “twenty ten?”  I don’t know what the proper pronouncement is supposed to be.  Do you just say “oh ten?”  I don’t think that’s right either.  I guess I’ll have to try it both ways for a bit before I decide.

Anyhow, I’m not usually one for resolutions.  I never stick with them anyways, so why set myself up for failure?  But this year, I have a few things that I really want to accomplish so I am going to set some.

  1. Save some money.  I SUCK at saving money.  I’ve never been able to save a dime.  But I am a mommy now.  With that comes some responsibility (ha).  So this year, I will save some money.  I’m going to start small.  Maybe just $20 out of a paycheck.  But that’s more than I ever saved before.  I want to be able to buy my boys things and take them places without always relying on my (wonderful) parents for help.
  2. Eat more healthy. hahahahahahah!! No, really.  I have to lose weight.  But since I am pregnant I have to wait before “dieting.”  So I am just going to try and eat a little better.  Keep from gaining too much weight.  It’s better for me, this baby and my family.  Then, when the baby is born, I will commit myself to losing weight for.ever.   If you’ve read for any length of time, you might know that I attempted to get weight loss surgery.  That didn’t go well the 1st time.  I haven’t decided if I will try that route again or just do it the “old fashioned” way.  I’ll let you know in June.
  3. 365 Day Photo Project.  I got my new camera for Christmas so I want to learn to use it.  So I’ve committed myself to taking and posting (at least) one photo per day over on my photo blog.  Of course, I’ve already screwed this up because I couldn’t take a picture yesterday (the 1st).  It seems I got a bad memory card.  At least, that’s all I hope is the problem.  On New Year’s Eve, it stopped working.  POO!  Then the stores were not open yesterday so I couldn’t go get a new one.  I’ll head out today and get my card.  Hopefully, that will fix my card formatting problem, and then I’ll start my project.  So it will actually be a “364 Day Photo Project.”  HA.  I’m bound to post some of my favorite photos over here on Wordless Wednesday posts, but check out the photo blog to see if I am improving my skills.

So those are my resolutions.  What are yours?

Merry Christmas to ME!

I am SO FREAKING HAPPY!

Remember way back when I said all I wanted for Christmas was a fancy DSLR Camera?

I got it!!

Well, not the exact camera that I thought I wanted, but a great one nonetheless.  A less expensive, better for beginners one.

I got the Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. It also happened to be in a bundle special at Sam’s Club so I got an additional Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Telephoto Zoom Lens. It also came with a groovy gadget bag, and an SD memory card.  It was a Christmas Special and I got it all for $650.00. (I would link to it at Sam’s but it looks like it’s not available anymore.  Sorry for you!)

Woot!

Honestly, I have no freaking idea what all the lens numbers and such even mean.  I’ve been trying to read over at a digital photography site and I’m more confused now than I was before.  I’ve read more about ISO, aperture, and white balance in the last 2 days than I had my entire life before that.  My head hurts.

But I’m really excited to learn.  I want to start participating in some challenges like the ones at I Heart Faces and the ones at Digital Photography School.  I know there are others out there and I would love to know if you participate in any.

In fact, I’m so excited about this new hobby that I’ve created a separate photo blog just for my pictures.  I plan on using it to chronicle my (hopeful) improvements over the next year or so in learning about my camera.  I’ll post my fun pictures and contest entries over there.  I might even try to share some tips that I learn along the way.  I might even try to do a 365 day project.  I have a few days to decide on that though.  Not sure if I am ready for such a commitment.

Anyhow, I hope you visit my photo blog.  I still might tweak the theme.  Not sure if I like the dark colors.  Right now I have a bunch of pictures just from the past couple days.  Nothing special, but I can already see a difference in the quality of photos between my old point and shoot and my new DSLR.

YAY!  I’m so excited!!

Oh, PS – if you are interested in following along, I put a link to the photos up in my navigation bar. :)
