The holiday’s are right around the corner here and it’s so easy to get caught up in the shopping and eating and running around like a crazy person.  Many times we get so wrapped up in the stresses of it all that we forget about ourselves.  Why not kill two birds with one stone?  Procter & Gamble is making it easy to Like, Love and Pamper the ones you love while giving you a little happiness as well.

I was given the opportunity to create my own special gift basket using P&G products.  I chose to use only Olay Face Care products because both my mom and my aunt love the anti-aging, Regenerist line.  The products at Sam’s Club come in “bulk” so it was easy to create a special pampering gift for more than one person without having to think too hard about it.

I came really close to buying my aunt Terri the Olay Pro-X line because it’s supposed to be fabulous and right  now with the Rewards Program going on, it would have been such a great deal!

Pro-X Retail Price:  $93.48
Special In-Club Price:  $83.48
Olay Rewards:  <$20.00>
Beauty Rewards:  <$10.00>

I should kick myself for not buying it, but I’ve never been that great at math, or shopping.  But that’s okay, because I’m happy that I got two beautiful gifts to pamper my beautiful mom and aunt.  What more can I ask for in a gift?  Oh, yeah.  I’ll be getting $30 in gift cards back.  Go Me!

Stay tuned because there will be a contest coming along shortly where you will get a chance to win a fabulous Procter & Gamble gift basket of your own!  I’ll have details on that in a few days.  Hurry in to get your Rewards, the $10.00 P&G Beauty Rewards program ends soon.  For more details on these rewards programs, visit this P&G Magalog.

Sam’s Club Wants to Know: What’s Your Funniest Holiday Tradition?

Every year at Thanksgiving, my mom buys a giant turkey.  I mean a giant, must have been exposed to radiation, 30 POUND turkey.  Talk about artificial hormones!  Anyhow, one time several years ago, she held this enormous turkey up by it’s wings and started spanking it.  I don’t even know why she did this.  But it was they funniest thing I’d ever seen.  Maybe I was drunk?  It’s quite possible.  But we both burst out laughing and took turns spanking the turkey.

I’m sure we must have both been drunk!

And so now, every year since as long as I can remember, we spank the turkey at Thanksgiving.

Recipe Using Gourmet Cheese from Sam’s Club

Did you know that Sam’s Club is now carrying beautiful, creamy, yummy and stinky cheese?  Why, YES, they certainly are.  And do you know what else?  I LOVE CHEESE!

I think Bleu, Asiago, and Gorgonzola are my favorite “gourmet” varieties but on a day when I need a quick snack, I often reach for my kids’ favorite: string cheese (which we all know is just mozzarella!).

Sam’s Club is really excited  be bringing these gourmet cheeses from around the world into the club.  To celebrate with it’s members, Sam’s Club is launching a a very cool Facebook App that is all about cheese and you can enter there to WIN a TRIP TO FRANCE!  The app will take you on a cheese journey around the world where you can learn about different cheese and wine pairings as well as other fun stuff.  And if you are a cheese lover like me, then you’ll want to check it out.

I was really excited to get a sampling of the new cheeses to try out with my family.  It was so hard to narrow down a single cheese recipe to share with you, but falling back to my Italian roots, I picked an Italian meatball recipe using Grana Padano which is very similar to Parmesan.  In fact, it’s so similar that I added some fresh Parmesan to my recipe since I didn’t quite have enough Grana Padano.

Meatballs with Grana Padano  Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups grated Grana Padano or Parmigiana Reggiano (parmesan)
  • generous handful of bread crumbs (purchased “canned” bread crumbs) soaked in milk for 5 minutes and squeezed dry.  If you start rolling your meatballs and they seem too “loose” then add some more breadcrumbs to the mixture).
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • olive oil
  • oil or unsweetened butter
  • small bunch of minced parsley (optional – I did not use this, instead I used some dried Italian Seasoning)

To make a large batch of meatballs for my boys, I doubled this recipe.

I grated my cheese using my Ninja Master Prep.  Grana Padana is a hard cheese, so it crumbles easy in a food processor or blender.

Combine meat with the eggs, cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley(or Italian Seasoning), salt and pepper.  Add just enough olive oil to make mixture soft (I omitted the olive oil).

Shape into meatballs.  Now the original recipe says to roll the meatballs in a beaten egg and then roll them into more breadcrumbs, but I didn’t do this either.  Just want to mention it in case you feel you want to add this step.

Brown your meatballs in heated oil/butter until nicely browned on the outside and cooked through to the center.

All the cheese in the meatballs started cooking and it just smells amazing!

Serve over pasta.  Or eat alone because these are that good.  I served a traditional red sauce with dinner this night, but an alfredo would probably be good, too.  We had a bunch of meatballs left over and they were good warmed up the next day.

ALL the boys liked their Grana Padana Meatballs.  YAY!

So if you are looking to experiment with some new cheeses, or just have a hard to find favorite, go visit your local Sam’s Club and check out their new cheeses.  I was really impressed with their selection.  Also, visit their Fall Harvest website to learn more about cheese and explore other fun fall decorating and entertaining ideas.

Oh yeah, don’t forget the Facebook App where you can WIN A TRIP TO PARIS!

Did I mention that already?

Just checking.

Sam’s Club provided my family with a variety of cheese in order to share a fun new recipe with you.  They also provided compensation for my time in creating this post.  My opinions always remain my own.

Initial Thoughts On My Sam’s Club Visit

I have been a “Sharing the Savings” mom for a little more than a year now.  I’ve gotten to share Sam’s Club promotions and fun deals with you and in return I’ve gotten paid.  Shocker, huh?  I was not a Sam’s Club member before I became their blogger.  I was a devout club store shopper, just not this club store.  Over the past year, I’ve gotten familiar with my local club and while I didn’t have any problems with it, I just didn’t choose to shop there regularly unless I was preparing information for a promotion.

One little trip to Bentonville, Arkansas has changed that.

I learned a lot of surprising things about Sam’s Club this week.  My view of the store has changed for the better and I really think it was a great idea for them to invite us out to tour their facilities.  I really think more brands need to do this with their blogging communities because it has given me (the blogger) a whole new view on the brand that has helped support my family this past year.  It will make my job easier because I have a new passion for the club that wasn’t there before.

  • Did you know that Sam’s Club does blind taste tests on every food item that they stock in their store?  They will not put it on the shelves if it isn’t good and if people don’t like it.  They even do this with packaged baked goods and boxed side dishes.
  • Sam’s Club has a test kitchen where they develop all these amazing “meal solutions” so that you can go into a store and pick up something delicious while on the go.
  • They consult with real live blackberry breeders to ensure that they are providing the very best blackberries in the store.  They do this will all produce items.
  • Each department has it’s own set of buyers that goes out into the world to find only the very best products for their departments.  I was shocked to learn how much effort they actually put into their products.
  • They have a team of people thinking up ways to keep the “club store” prices in line with what actually fits into people’s pantry’s.  Like coffee, for instance, is packaged into three 5 pound bags instead of one large 15 pound bag that can potentially go bad before you ever use it.
  • The people that work at Sam’s Club headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas are just about the nicest people I’ve ever met.  And they like to feed us!

I will have lots of Sam’s Club stories coming in the future.  I took some 280 pictures and learned a TON of things.  I met some really great people and had a lot of fun.  But I just wanted to say Thank You to Sam’s Club for bringing us out and showing us what exactly you do.  It was enlightening and inspiring and I came away really impressed with your entire operation.

Sam’s Club really is all about Savings Made Simple.
